Pau Gasol Trade Rumors: Houston Rockets Not Pursuing Lakers PF

Hey, remember that earlier report that had us saying the Rockets are so totally going to go after Pau Gasol? Scratch that. Chad Ford disputed it, and then Ken Berger confirmed it.

While rival executives believed Houston's target was Lakers forward Pau Gasol, a person familiar with the team's strategy debunked that idea and said the Rockets front office has cooled significantly on the 7-foot Spaniard. Gasol made sense when Houston was pursuing him in the past year and was trying to set up a three-year window with Kyle Lowry, Gasol and another big-man target, Nene. But the person briefed on the Rockets' current plan doubted Gasol would make sense for the franchise anymore.

So the Rockets are not interested in Gasol anymore after nearly acquiring him this offseason. It does seem like all these draft picks are a lot to sacrifice for a power forward on the tail end of his prime. Looks like Houston is going all in on trying to lure Dwight Howard, even if it's probably just going to be a year-long rental.

Los Angeles will have to try and shop Gasol to other teams in all likelihood.
