Current Lakers assistants will remain under Mike D'Antoni

Mike D'Antoni will take over as head coach of the Lakers, but he won't make drastic changes on the coaching staff.

Jeff Hanisch-US PRESSWIRE

Shortly after Mike D'Antoni was announced as the next head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers, rumors began to swirl about who he may add to his coaching staff. Instead of making drastic changes, D'Antoni said the current staff is expected to remain intact.

In an interview with T.J. Simers of the Los Angeles Times, D'Antoni said the only expected change to the coaching staff will be the addition of his brother Dan. That means Eddie Jordan, Steve Clifford, Bernie Bickerstaff, Chuck Person and Darvin Ham will all remain, at least through this season.

D'Antoni was rumored to be in discussions with former Trail Blazers head coach Nate McMillan, but D'Antoni said he hasn't talked to McMillan about joining the Lakers coaching staff. He said he would talk to him this summer, that is if McMillan hasn't landed a head coaching position by then. D'Antoni and McMillan worked together on the Team USA coaching staff.
