The Los Angeles Lakers visit the Portland Trail Blazers on Wednesday night at 7:30 p.m. PT. The game will be the season opener for Portland and will be shown on Time Warner Cable Sportsnet locally with NBA TV broadcasting nationally. Radio coverage in the LA area can be found on 710 ESPN and 1330 KWKW.

Los Angeles will be playing for the second straight night after dropping their first game, 99-91, to the Dallas Mavericks on Tuesday. New big man Dwight Howard finished with 19 points and 10 rebounds, but made just 3 of 14 from the free-throw line. Steve Nash could muster just seven points on 3 of 9 shooting with four assists in his first game. Kobe Bryant was efficient while playing through a foot injury, hitting 11 of 14 for 22 points.

Pau Gasol flourished in the team's new Princeton-style offense, leading the Lakers with 23 points, 13 rebounds and six assists.

Portland is coming off a tough season in which it lost its last seven games to finish 10 games under .500.
