NBA power rankings 2012: Lakers second, Clippers eighth

Seth Rosenthal of SB Nation has ranked the Lakers second and the Clippers eighth in the first power rankings of the 2012-13 season.

Dwight Howard and Steve Nash will make their Los Angeles debuts when the Lakers open the season against the Dallas Mavericks on Tuesday. The status of Kobe Bryant is uncertain for the season opener, as he's currently listed as 'day-to-day' with a foot injury.

The Los Angeles Clippers are ranked eighth, one spot ahead of the Memphis Grizzlies, who they will open the season against on Oct. 31.

The Miami Heat open the season in the top spot while the Oklahoma City Thunder, Boston Celtics and San Antonio Spurs round out the top five behind the Lakers.

The Phoenix Suns are ranked 22nd, followed by the Golden State Warriors at 23rd and the Sacramento Kings representing the Pacific division in the 25th spot.

The Charlotte Bobcats are ranked as the worst team in the league.
