2011 NBA Playoffs: Downtown L.A. Busy Monday Night With Lakers, Dodgers Both Playing At Home

Traffic in and around Los Angeles is always bad, but look for extra gridlock Monday night in downtown L.A.. The Lakers play Game 1 of their NBA playoff series with the Mavericks at Staples Center at 7:30 p.m., about 20 minutes later and four miles from Dodger Stadium, where the Dodgers open a three-game series with the Cubs. Dating back to 2008, the Dodgers have played at home on the same day that the Lakers had a home playoff game 19 times. The Lakers are 16-3 in those games, while the Dodgers are 12-7.

The good news is that not once have both the Lakers and Dodgers lost on these days with two games. Then again, that has a lot to do with the Lakers being dominant at home, at 16-3. In fact, the Lakers are 17-2 at home since 2008 in the playoffs when the Dodgers don't play on the same night. In the end, there is no real predictive value in any of this information, but I thought it was interesting.
