The Los Angeles Kings signed defenseman prospect Kurtis MacDermid to a three-year, entry level deal on Wednesday, the team announced.
The 18-year-old most recently played with the Owen Sound Attack of the Ontario Hockey League, where he recorded two assists in nine games. Out of Sauble Beach, Ontario, MacDermid is 6'3 and 186 pounds with experience in the junior leagues with the Owen Sound Greys. There, he scored three goals and had six assists as a team captain.
MacDermid participated in Los Angeles' developmental camp in July, the team said.
The signing comes on a day less important on the ice for hockey as it is off it. The NHL Players' Association met with the league in the final talks before a likely lockout as the old collective bargaining agreement ends Sept. 15.
