Jonathan Quick saved all eight shots he faced in the first period, and the Los Angeles Kings and New Jersey Devils are scoreless after the first 20 minutes of Game 4 of the 2012 NHL Stanley Cup Final Wednesday night at Staples Center in Los Angeles. The Kings lead the best-of-seven series three games to none.
The Kings had the first big scoring opportunity when a tripping penalty on Zach Parise at 3:02 of the first period put them on the power play. But despite three shots on goal the Kings failed to capitalize.
A hooking call on Jarret Stoll put the Devils on the power play at 5:53 of the first period, but the Kings killed that power play without even allowing a shot on goal. Dustin Brown was called for tripping almost immediately, at 7:58, but the Kings killed that too, thanks to some big saves from Quick.
New Jersey is 0-for-14 on the power play so far in the Stanley Cup Final, and the Kings have killed 66 of 71 power plays in their great playoff run.
Martin Brodeur saved all seven shots he faced for New Jersey.
