The third time just might be the charm for the Los Angeles Kings. The Kings are now 40 minutes away from their first Stanley Cup after cashing in three goals on a single game misconduct penalty on Steve Bernier and subsequent five-minute power play, and lead the New Jersey Devils 3-0 after the first period of Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Final at Staples Center in downtown Los Angeles.
The Kings lead the best-of-seven series three games to two, though they have lost the last two games.
The penalty on Bernier occured at 10:10 of the first period on a vicious hit on Rob Scuderi into the boards that left him laying on the ice bleeding.
The Kings capitalized in a huge way. Dustin Brown scored at 11:03 of the first, then added another goal just 102 seconds later. Trevor Lewis added a goal at 15:03, giving the Kings three power play goals and sent the Staples Center crowd into a frenzy.
Jonathan Quick faced only four shots in the period, and he saved them all for the Kings.
