The Los Angeles Kings completely jumped on the Phoenix Coyotes to start the NHL Western Conference Finals. But a soft goal allowed by the usually reliable Jonathan Quick allowed Phoenix to tie the score. Game 1 of the conference finals is tied at 1-1 at the end of the first period at Jobing.com Arena in Glendale, Arizona.
Anze Kopitar scored his fourth goal of the season to give the Kings a 1-0 lead at 3:53 of the first period, assisted by Dustin Brown and Drew Doughty. That was one of 16 shots by the Kings in the first period, compared to just four for the Coyotes.
But one of the shots for Phoenix was this one from center ice by Derek Morris, which somehow got by Quick to tie the score with 6:34 left in the period.
The Kings are undefeated on the road this postseason (5-0).
