The St. Louis Blues offense finally broke through at the 18 second mark at the beginning of the second period after Andy McDonald made a wristshot from eight feet out. McDonald was assisted by David Backes and Kris Russell.
A little over a minute after McDonald's goal, the Kings answered as Justin Williams scored his own wristshot goal seven feet out, assisted by Dustin Brown and Matt Greene.
After an offensive outburst in the first half, the Los Angeles Kings sustained their four-goal lead, 5-1, against the St. Louis Blues in the second period of Monday's second round playoff game.
The game's intensity stayed at a high level in the second period, with both teams refusing to stop fighting — literally. The match looked extra chippy when the Blues' Carlo Colaiacovo and the Kings' Dustin Brown started fighting. Brown was pegged for two minutes in the penalty box for charging, while Colaiacovo was given two minutes as well for roughing. Both teams were tagged for four penalties each in the second period.
