NHL Playoffs 2012: Kings Still Hold Pacific Divison As Of Sunday Night

The Los Angeles Kings remain in first place in the Pacific Division and retain the vital third seed in the NHL playoffs, were the season to end after Sunday. Unfortunately, the season is not yet over and they have three division challengers breathing down their neck.

The Kings, the Phoenix Coyotes, the San Jose Sharks and the Dallas Stars are all within two points of one another while the Colorado Avalanche are within three. Only three of those five teams will be able to make the cutoff for the Western Conference postseason so it is vital that the Kings attempt to win out the remainder of their games to secure their spot. It won't be easy. They play Edmonton on Monday and wrap up the season with a home-and-home against the Sharks on Thursday and Saturday.
