The Los Angeles Kings headed slightly South on Friday night to take on their Southern California and Pacific Division rivals the Anaheim Ducks. This was a key game for the Kings, as they continue to attempt a playoff push. Their tenacity on Friday night paid off, as the Kings picked up the 4-2 win.
Almost the entirety of the Kings' offense came in the first period, as the Kings scored three unanswered goals from Alec Martinez, Anze Kopitar and Justin Williams. Cam Fowler finally got the Ducks on the board with a power play goal at 3:41 of the second period, but that would be the only score of the period.
Luca Sbisa brought the Ducks to within one in the third period with a goal at 3:53, but Anaheim couldn't get any closer. The final goal of the game was an empty-netter by Mike Richards in the final seconds. The goal was the 15th of the season for Richards.
The Kings took a whopping 43 shots on goal in the game. Anaheim could only manage 20.
With the win, the Kings are now just two points behind the San Jose Sharks and just three behind the Phoenix Coyotes in the Pacific Division and the Western Conference playoff race.
