Drew Doughty scored on the power play in literally the last second of the game, with 0.4 seconds remaining, giving the Los Angeles Kings a 3-2 victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets Wednesday night at Staples Center. The goal was Doughty's fourth goal of the season.
All-Star Jonathan Quick saved 20 of 22 shots for the win.
Justin Williams opened the scoring with a power play goal, assisted by Drew Doughty, at 8:34 of the first period. It was the 10th goal of the season for Williams. The Kings outshot the Blue Jackets 13-9 in the opening period.
Derek Dorsett opened the second period with the game-tying goal for the Blue Jackets at 1:09, his ninth lamplighter of the season, assisted by Derick Brassard and Vinny Prospal. Dustin Penner scored an unassisted goal, his fourth of the season, at 14:32 of the second period, to regain the lead for the Kings. Los Angeles outshot Columbus 11-8 in the second period.
Colton Gillies scored the equalizer for Columbus at 4:52 of the third period, his first goal of the season.
The Kings don't have another home game until February 16, as the Grammy Awards come to Staples Center this month. The Kings embark on a six-game, 10-day road trip beginning Friday in St. Louis against the Blues.
