Kings Vs. Stars: Anze Kopitar Hurt In 5-4 Shootout Loss

The Los Angeles Kings ended their homestand on a sour note, with a 5-4 shootout loss to the Dallas Stars Thursday night at Staples Center. The Kings ended their homestand 3-1-2. The Kings are now 11-0-1 this season when scoring three or more goals.

Anze Kopitar scored a goal and had two assists, but left the game in the third period after a hit by Brenden Morrow of the Stars. Kopitar was helped off the ice and did not return, suffering what the Kings called an upper body injury. Now that their homestand is over, the Kings begin a three-game road trip on Saturday night against the Calgary Flames.

The Kings had been amazing playing shorthanded of late, killing 40 consecutive power plays including their first four against Dallas on Thursday night. However, that streak came to an end with 5:25 remaining in the third period when Loui Eriksson found the back of the net to tie the game at 4-4. It was the second goal of the game for Eriksson.

Kari Lehtonen saved 37 of 41 shots for the win for Dallas. Jonathan Quick saved 34 of 38 shots in the loss.
