2011 NHL Playoffs: Kings Have Won Three Straight First Round Games 3 At Staples Center

The Los Angeles Kings have already taken home ice advantage away from the San Jose Sharks with their Game 2 shutout win at HP Pavilion. The Kings look to use that advantage Tuesday night at an excited Staples Center as they host San Jose in Game 3 of their first round playoff series. This series is shaping up like last year's first-round series for the Kings.

The Kings are hoping for a better result than they had last year against Vancouver, however. Last year, like this year, the Kings lost in overtime on the road in Game 1, then rebounded to take Game 2. The Kings then rode that momentum to a home win at Staples Center in Game 3, only to lose the next three games to get eliminated. The Kings have won three straight first-round Games 3 at Staples Center:

  • 2010: Kings 5, Vancouver 3
  • 2002: Kings 3, Colorado 1
  • 2001: Kings 2, Detroit 1

The Kings hope for a similar result in tonight's Game 3. The 7:30 p.m. PDT game will be televised on Prime Ticket and Versus.
