Kings Defeat Dallas Stars, 5-2, To End Winning Road Trip

Dallas, TX (Sports Network) - Wayne Simmonds and Willie Mitchell each had a goal and an assist as the Los Angeles Kings downed the Dallas Stars, 5-2, at American Airlines Center. Dustin Brown, Alexei Ponikarovsky and Justin Williams each had a goal for the Kings, who have won three of their last four. Jack Johnson added three assists while Jonathan Quick stopped 30 shots in the win.

"[Quick's] been fantastic. He made some huge saves for us," Johnson said.

Brandon Segal and Brad Richards each had a goal for the Stars, who have lost three in a row.

Kari Lehtonen was charged with four goals on 15 shots and was pulled late in the third for Andrew Raycroft, who stopped all eight shots he faced.

Los Angeles opened the scoring in the game with a Brown power-play goal 3:30 in, but Dallas answered with under four minutes to play in the first with a 5- on-3 goal as Richards' shot from the left point got past Quick.

Los Angeles scored a pair of goals in nine seconds in the second to take the lead.

The first came at 13:05 when Simmonds sent a backhand pass from the left circle on the fly to the front of the net where Ponikarovsky shot it in.

Off the ensuing faceoff, Simmonds skated in on Quick and slipped a backhander past the goaltender as he crashed the net. The goal was called off on the ice as the net came off its moorings, but a replay showed that the puck had crossed the line before the net came off.

At the 4:40 mark of the third, the Kings took a 4-1 lead as Mitchell's saucer pass from the right circle hit off the skate of Philip Larsen and got past Lehtonen.

Dallas got a goal back just past the midway mark of the third as Segal's wrap-around from the left side went up the back of Quick and in.

The Stars later got Raycroft out of the net for the extra attacker, but Williams sealed the win with an empty-netter.

"We let an opportunity slip by us," Dallas defenseman Matt Niskanen said. "We're not doing enough good things to come away with wins."
