There are matches on the schedule which get more hype than they deserve, for one reason or another. The Galaxy's match against the Portland Timbers on Wednesday was one of those, as MLS loves to show off the atmosphere at JELD-WEN. Tonight the Galaxy are playing the second place team in MLS, who only trail by three points, and the game is delayed an hour on local broadcast. Just another day in Major League Soccer.
So, with the Los Angeles Galaxy vs. FC Dallas match pushed back for Dodgers v. Diamondbacks, it's the perfect time to come out to Home Depot Center. It should be a cracker of a match, as both teams have everything to play for. The Galaxy want to protect their three point cushion, and Dallas, with two games in hand, look to pass the lead car on the left.
While the Galaxy watched their two game road trip crash and burn in Portland, Dallas kept pace last weekend with a win over Chivas USA, then locked up a spot in the Champion's League on Wednesday. In the first meeting between these two clubs, Brek Shea scored a dramatic game winner two minutes from full time. It was a bizarre match, as the clubs had to deal with mother nature as well as each other. The match was delayed an hour due to lightning, with just a few regulation minutes remaining.
This time around, mother nature should be more favorable, though all the other elements will still be there. Brek Shea is listed as probable with an illness, but Landon Donovan is back to full strength. The only scorer from last match who will definitely not be on the pitch is Fabian Castillo, who is off with the Colombian U-20's in the U-20 World Cup.
The Galaxy have 45 points from 24 games, FC Dallas have 42 from 22. It's the best of the best facing off against each other. The winner gets to sit in the driver's seat for the rest of the MLS season.
