Not much time for hype, with the Los Angeles Galaxy hosting Real Salt Lake in the Conference Championship just two days after defeating the New York Red Bulls in the Conference Semi's. An international weekend has crunched the MLS playoffs, normally this game would have taken place a week from now. Real Salt Lake has had an extra day of rest, and the teams are familiar with each other last playing on October 1st at the Home Depot Center; a game the Galaxy won 2-1.
The teams have 18 meetings between them all time, and nine at the Home Depot Center. The all-time series is tied 7-7-5, while at the HDC, the Galaxy lead 6-3-1.
A look at the last few results:
- Oct 1, 2011: LA Galaxy 2 - RSL 1
- March 26, 2011: RSL 4 - LA Galaxy 1
- June 9, 2010: RSL 1 - LA Galaxy 0
- April 17, 2010: LA Galaxy 2 - RSL 1
- June 13, 2009: LA Galaxy 0 - RSL 2
- May 6, 2009: RSL 2 - LA Galaxy 2
Of course, the big meeting in 2009 was the MLS Cup. The game at Quest Field in Seattle finished 1 - 1 in regular time, but then RSL won the Cup in a shootout. The results have been even the last few years, but the Galaxy's core is much the same as it was in 2009. They haven't forgotten.
