The Los Angeles Galaxy struck first, with Edson Buddle knocking a beautiful kick from the right corner over the keepers head in the 9' from a Chris Birchall assist (who had received the ball from Landon Donovan). But this balanced attacking look didn't last long, as Edson Buddle knocked a clearance attempt into his own net in the 18' and then Conor Casey knocked in an Omar Cummings cross from the right side of the box to put the Colorado Rapids up 1 - 2 a half time.
The Galaxy dominated the shot chart, with a Gregg Berhalter attempt on a David Beckham corner going wide left, and Edson Buddle making three more shot attempts; one of them on goal when Landon Donovan left a ball for him on the left corner, but the attempt didn't try the keeper at all. The Galaxy's other attempts on goal came from David Beckham in the 20', which was close enough to make the keeper give a flying punch, and Michael Stephens in stoppage time; a long shot right at the keeper who punched it away.
Colorado's 30' goal was their only shot on target, although a stoppage time strike hit the right corner hard and bounced away. Colorado has also earned two yellow cards, a 35' card to Conor Casey for a reckless tackle on Chris Birchall sending Birchall out for the game.
Real Salt Lake defeated FC Dallas 2 - 0 earlier, so the Galaxy can only clinch the Supporter's Shield with a win.
