The Los Angeles Dodgers were unable to complete their sweep of the struggling Marlins on Sunday, losing by a score of 6-2. The Dodgers took an early lead against Mark Buehrle, but four homers from Miami were too much to overcome for the offense this afternoon.
Aaron Harang made the start for L.A. and started strong, although he lasted just 5.1 innings. Harang surrendered three runs on six hits and a walk, working in and out of trouble in the middle frames to keep the game close.
Adrian Gonzalez continued his hot start with an RBI single in the first. Giancarlo Stanton tied the game at 1-1 in the fourth with a solo homer to center field. Rob Brantly then hit his first long ball of the season in the fifth with a two-run shot to push the Marlins lead to 3-1.
Andre Ethier singled home Matt Kemp in the seventh to cut the deficit to 3-2. L.A. was unable to get anything more out of the rally though, which really hurt their comeback chances.
Miami added one run in the eighth on a fielding error from Hanley Ramirez. Jose Reyes and Carlos Lee both hit solo homers in the ninth to push their lead to 6-2. The Dodgers put two runners on with only one out in the bottom half of the ninth, although neither A.J. Ellis or Mark Ellis were able to come up with a key hit.
As a team, Los Angeles went 2-for-17 with runners in scoring position and left 16 on base.
The club will now head to Colorado to begin a series with the Rockies. Josh Beckett will make his debut on Monday night in a 5:40 p.m. PT start.
