The Los Angeles Dodgers continued their road trip from hell on Monday night, dropping the opener of a three-game series to the San Francisco Giants 8-0 at AT&T Park. Nathan Eovaldi allowed four runs in the first inning, then three more in the second inning, putting this one to bed early.
The Dodgers saw their lead in the National League West shrink to two games over the Giants with the loss.
One some level, Eovaldi being able to bounce back and pitch three more innings was a small measure of success as it meant fewer innings for the bullpen, as the Dodgers still have 13 games left of a stretch of 20 games in 20 days.
Barry Zito pitched seven scoreless innings to earn the win for the Giants.
Dee Gordon reached base three times for the Dodgers and stole a base for the Dodgers in defeat. With the loss, the Dodgers have lost six of seven games on their road trip.
Clayton Kershaw starts on Tuesday for the Dodgers, facing Ryan Vogelsong.
