After their 3-2 loss Monday night to the Milwaukee Brewers, the Los Angeles Dodgers optioned pitcher Michael Antonini back to Triple A Albuquerque, a move that was expected. The Dodgers had just recalled Antonini before Monday's game when pitcher Ted Lilly was placed on the 15-day disabled list with left shoulder inflammation.
Antonini was recalled to give the Dodgers an extra relief pitcher for Monday's game, as Lilly's spot in the rotation doesn't come up until Tuesday. Nathan Eovaldi is expected to get the call from Double A Chattanooga to take Lilly's spot in the rotation.
It has been a bittersweet year for Antonini, who was added to the 40-man roster for the first time last November. He was recalled for three games in April, his first time on a major league roster, but he didn't get to pitch in any of those games either. That makes two big league stints for Antonini totaling four days, but no games pitched, so far.
