Dodgers Interested In Bobby Abreu

The new Los Angeles Dodgers ownership group, the Guggenheim Baseball Partners, were introduced on Wednesday at Dodger Stadium. New CEO Stan Kasten stressed that the Dodgers would build from within, but also said they would spend money to add players as needed. It appears the first transaction of the new ownership group could be a minor one.

The Dodgers are in "serious talks" with Bobby Abreu, according to both Jon Heyman of CBS Sports and Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports. Heyman reported there is no deal yet done, and there are other teams interested in Abreu. Rosenthal reported that the left-handed Abreu would be mostly a bench bat and see some time in left field.

The Los Angeles Angels released Abreu last Friday after the 38-year old began the season 5-for-24 and was disgruntled with his lack of playing time.

Abreu didn't have much power last year, hitting .253/.353/.365, and he might not be able to play much outfield, but with the Angels on the hook for all but the pro-rated major league minimum, adding Abreu is really a no-risk deal.
