The Los Angeles Dodgers on Friday signed infielder Aaron Miles to a minor league contract. The 35-year old has reported to the club's training facility at Camelback Ranch in Glendale, Arizona.
Miles signed a minor league contract with the Dodgers before last season as well, then made the club in spring training as the 25th man. Thank to various injuries in the Dodgers infield, from Casey Blake to Rafael Furcal to Juan Uribe, Miles ended up playing 136 games and came nine plate appearances shy of the batting title.
Miles started 61 games at second base and 49 more at third base last season for the Dodgers. The switch-hitting Miles was on fire in June last year, hitting .419 in 21 games, but after the All-Star break hit just .229/.290/.307 in 61 games, including 55 starts.
In other roster news, the Dodgers put Mike MacDougal on release waivers Friday. The reliever was designated for assignment on May 3 to make room on the roster for Ronald Belisario, who was activated from the restricted list after serving his 25-game suspension for violating the league's drug policy.
If MacDougal clears waivers, he will be a free agent on Sunday.
