Spring Training 2012: Russ Mitchell Gets Non-Roster Invitation To Los Angeles Dodgers Camp

The Los Angeles Dodgers announced on Monday night that Russ Mitchell, the longtime minor leaguer who was designated for assignment to make room on the 40-man roster for Todd Coffey last week, was added to major league camp in spring training at Camelback Ranch in Glendale, Arizona as a non-roster invitee.

Mitchell, who has hit .151/.208/.290 with four home runs in 40 games over parts of two seasons with the Dodgers, cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple A Albuquerque, where he has played the last two seasons. Mitchell, who turns 27 on Wednesday, was drafted by the Dodgers in the 15th round in 2003 and has spent nine seasons in their minor league system.

The inclusion of Mitchell brings the total number of player in major league camp for the Dodgers to 62, including 33 pitchers. Pitchers and catchers report to Camelback Ranch on Tuesday, February 21 and hold their first workout on February 22. Position players report to Dodgers camp on Monday, February 27 with the first full squad workout on February 28.
