The Los Angeles Dodgers made a number of key acquisitions during the regular season, but none may have as big of a long-term impact as the acquisition they made on Thursday.

The Dodgers named Bob Engle as their vice president of international scouting on Thursday, hiring one of the best international talent evaluators in baseball. Engle has a long history of success as a scout, including scouting and signing Cy Young Award winners Roy Halladay, Chris Carpenter, Pat Hentgen and Felix Hernandez.

Engle spent the last 12 seasons with the Seattle Mariners and played a vital role in acquiring some of Seattle's top prospects, including Hernandez. Engle has also worked for the Toronto Blue Jays and Baltimore Orioles. He is widely considered to be one of the top international scouting directors in baseball and was named the East Coast Scout of the Year in 2011.

Dodgers general manager Ned Colletti said Engle will help strengthen the Dodgers' scouting department and help Los Angeles add and develop future impact players.
