Andre Ethier's Knee Healthy Enough To Start Monday Night

Andre Ethier created a bit of a firestorm this weekend when comments in an article by T.J. Simers suggested the Los Angeles Dodgers were forcing him to play while hurt. Ethier backed off those comments on Sunday, saying he never told the team his knee was too hurt to play. Whatever the condition, Ethier is back in the starting lineup Monday night as the Dodgers open a three-game home series with the San Diego Padres.

This is frustrating on a few levels. On one hand, both player and team acknowledge something is wrong with Ethier's knee and it will require surgery during the offseason. With the Dodgers not playing for anything now, why not have Ethier get the surgery now, as soon as possible, so he can be healthy for next season.

I do hope that Ethier is playing because doctors have determined he can't do anymore damage to his knee, and not because of some statistical goals that he can take with him to his potential arbitration hearing in the winter.
