Dodgers Look To End Losing Streak Against Visiting Houston Astros

The Los Angeles Dodgers (52-64) will send rookie pitcher Nathan Eovaldi (1-0) on the mound tonight as he will try to end their 4-game  losing skid against Bud Norris (5-8) and the visiting Houston Astros (38-80) tonight at Dodger Stadium.

The Astros, losers of their last six of seven games, are currently on a 3-game skid themselves after ending a difficult series with the Arizona Diamondbacks. The Dodgers were swept by the Philadelphia Phillies in their last series.

Eovaldi will be starting his second game and his first at home in Dodger Stadium.  The right-hander out of Alvin, Tex. had threw only 77 pitches through five innings in his major league debut as a Dodger against the Diamondbacks. He will have had five days rest so manager Don Mattingly may stretch him out longer for tonight's game.

Norris is coming off a loss against the Milwaukee Brewers as he lasted five innings allowing eight hits and six earned runs.  The product from Greenwae, Calif. is currently 14th in the National League in strikeouts and 9th in strikeouts per nine innnings.

Notes:

  • Matt Kemp has not homered in August, but still sporting a solid .859 OPS, including a .400 on-base percentage
  • The Dodgers have re-called short stop Justin Sellers from Albuquerque for the injured Dee Gordon. Sellers, 25, had a line of .305/.400/.537 during his time with the Isotopes.
  • Astros' rookie second baseman, Jose Altuve, is continuing to impress after his first 21 games in the majors. He is batting .346 with an OPS+ of 117.
