Angels Reportedly Sign First-Round Draft Pick C.J. Cron

According to a report by Jim Callis at Baseball America, the Los Angeles Angels have agreed to terms with their first-round draft pick C.J. Cron. The University of Utah first baseman, picked 17th overall by the Halos, will officially sign on Monday for $1.467 million, matching the recommended slot bonus by Major League Baseball. Cron is the son of former Angel Chris Cron.

"We like his power and hit combination and really see him as a middle of the order type of hitter," said Angels Director of Scouting Ric WIlson, when Cron was drafted. "I have known and followed C.J. for a long time and this kid is really a hard worker. I have no doubt he will get the most out of his abilities." Callis also noted that Cron will require surgery to repair a torn labrum, and although he caught at one time, Cron will be limited to first base.

Today's 1:10 p.m. PDT game will be televised by Fox. For more news and information on the Angels, the Dodgers, or the Freeway Series, be sure to read the SB Nation blogs True Blue LA and Halos Heaven.
