Depleted Dodgers Lose To Cubs, 5-1

The Dodgers lost their series finale with the Cubs Wednesday, 5-1, thanks to three Chicago home runs off Ted Lilly, but of bigger concern to Los Angeles are a trio of injuries. Jonathan Broxton complained of elbow soreness, and had an MRI today. Results of the MRI weren't known as of 20 minutes after the game, but it appears likely the closer could end up on the disabled list.

Andre Ethier was originally in today's starting lineup, ready to try to extend his hitting streak to 30 games. However, Ethier was a late scratch, after batting practice, with elbow soreness, officially termed inflammation in his left elbow. Uribe started the game at shortstop, but was hit on the hand by a pitch, and exited the game one inning later. He suffered a left hand contusion, but postgame x-rays were negative and Uribe is expected to play Friday in New York.

Geovany Soto and Carlos Pena hit solo home runs off Lilly, then Marlon Byrd unloaded with a three-run shot in the sixth inning, to essentially put the game away. Carlos Zambrano pitched eight innings for the win. The Dodgers are off Thursday before beginning a road trip in New York against the Mets.
