Andre Ethier’s hit streak has been extended to 18 games after reaching base on a single in the bottom of the third inning in Thursday’s Los Angeles Dodgers game against the the Atlanta Braves.
Ethier’s ability to extend the hitting streak to 18 games looked like it might be in jeopardy when Braves starting pitcher Jair Jurrjens walked the outfielder in the bottom of the first inning on seven pitches — three of which were fouled off by Ethier.
Ethier was able to pick up a hit in his second trip to the plate, however, as he hit a single to first base on a full count from Jurrjens in the bottom of the third inning while hitting Casey Blake over to third base from first. Unfortunately the inning wouldn’t end all that positively for Ethier as he was caught stealing before Juan Uribe’s fly ball ended the inning.
The Braves are currently leading the game 1-0 in the top of the fifth inning, but it’s always possible that Ethier hits his 101st homer in a Dodgers uniform to put Los Angeles on the scoreboard.
