The Dodgers have called up Jerry Sands, their 2010 minor league player of the year, before beginning a four-game series with the Braves at Dodger Stadium. Sands hit .400 with five home runs in 10 games with the Triple A Albuquerque Isotopes in the Pacific Coast League. Sands, who has played outfield and first base, gets the start in left field tonight, and is batting seventh in his major league debut.
Sands will wear No. 47. To make room for Sands on the roster, outfielder Xavier Paul was designated for assignment. Paul had three singles in 11 at-bats so far this season, but had barely been used over the last week and a half. Over the last nine days, Paul had just four plate appearances, all ending in strikeout. Here are tonight's lineups:
