Spring Training 2011: Pitchers & Catchers Report Today

Today brings four of the most beautiful words in sports, as "pitchers and catchers report" to spring training all across Arizona and Florida beginning today. It has been a solid three and a half months without any baseball, and even longer for fans of the 22 teams that didn't make the playoffs. The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim are one of nine teams that have pitchers and catchers reporting to camp on Sunday.

The day of reporting is more procedural than anything else, kind of like the first day of class when you spend time going over the syllabus. Today, pitchers and catchers will check in, take their physicals, and get the logistical things out of the way. Tomorrow, the real work begins, as pitchers & catchers hold their first full workout.

The battery mates for the Angels report today to Diablo Stadium in Tempe, while the rest of the squad reports on Friday. The first full squad workout for the Angels is next Saturday. Los Angeles Dodgers' pitchers and catchers report on Wednesday to Camelback Ranch in Glendale, and the position players report February 21. The first full team workout for the Dodgers is on Tuesday, February 22.

The Angels and Dodgers open their spring training schedule with a game against one another in Tempe on Saturday, February 26. For more baseball and spring training news, be sure to read Halos Heaven and True Blue LA.
