NBA Free Agency Rumors 2012: Clippers Offer Jamal Crawford, Chauncey Billups

The Los Angeles Clippers know they're going to have shore up their shooting guard position. It just wasn't good enough last season and it cost them the further they went into the playoffs.

Two of Los Angeles's biggest offseason targets appear to be shooting guards. Clippers shooting guard Jamal Crawford appears to be one of the first players who's being targeted. Broderick Turner of the Los Angeles Times files this report on the Clippers.

They plan to have free-agent guard Jamal Crawford in for a visit Tuesday at the team’s practice facility, according to sources who were not authorized to speak publicly on the matter.

The Clippers plan to offer Crawford the mid-level exception that starts at $5 million. The Clippers are willing to offer Crawford, a 6-foot-5 guard, at least a three-year deal, sources said.

Turner has more on a deal involving Chauncey Billups that's also being developed.

The Clippers also are planning to offer a contract to Chauncey Billups, sources said. Billups, who is recovering from a torn left Achilles’ tendon injury, will get a one-year offer from the Clippers for about $4 million, sources said.

Either Crawford or Billups (or both!) could really augment Los Angeles on the perimeter. With Lamar Odom potentially revisiting his Sixth Man role and Blake Griffin entering another year of development, it'd be hard not to see the Clippers back in contention for winning the Western Conference.
