Chauncey Billups of the Los Angeles Clippers is hoping that he'll be ready to return to action on an accelerated timetable. Billups says he's aiming for a November comeback this year. The Los Angeles Times has this report:
Billups has looked so good in practice and in Tuesday’s scrimmage that the Clippers think he may return sometime in late November.
"He’s been practicing," [head coach Vinny] Del Negro said. "And now it’s just a matter of when he feels ready. He’ll know it."
Billups suffered a torn left Achilles’ tendon -- an injury that could have ended his career. At 36, Billups was already on the downside of his career and had spent most of last season playing primarily off the bench.
Billups decided to return though. He had successful surgery, and originally planned for a return in December. Billups has apparently been performing better than expected and is all set to come back sooner rather than later. Billups would fill in nicely as a two guard and be part of a crowded Clipper rotation. Chris Paul, Willie Green, Jamal Crawford and Eric Bledsoe all figure to get minutes, and Billups will try and fit in there somewhere.
