NBA Free Agents 2011: Los Angeles Clippers Sign Reggie Evans

As expected, the Los Angeles Clippers have finally brought in Reggie Evans. Broderick Turner of the LA Times filed this report.

The Clippers made if official Thursday afternoon, announcing that they had signed Reggie Evans to a one-year contract.

Evans will earn the veteran’s minimum of about $1.3 million.

The 6-foot-8 Evans will be a backup and provide the Clippers with a physical and tough presence even though he’s an undersized center-forward.

The Clippers need a presence like Evans manning the paint and backing up talented bigs like DeAndre Jordan and Blake Griffin. Despite not scoring all that much for the Toronto Raptors last season, Evans was a pretty impressive rebounder, averaging around 11 to 12 boards a game.  Considering Los Angeles already has big men like Jordan and Griffin on their team, the addition of Evans provides another critical cog that can defend the inside and secure the boards.

Evans is still recovering from a foot injury, so don't expect him to be in action on Christmas Day against the Golden State Warriors. But when he comes back, he could be another huge piece that helps turn the Clippers into playoff contenders.
