Los Angeles, CA (Sports Network) - Carmelo Anthony barely missed a triple- double, finishing with 30 points, 14 rebounds and nine assists, powering Denver to a 100-95 preseason win over the Los Angeles Clippers.
Arron Afflalo added 27 points and nine boards, while Nene ended with 13 points in the win.
Blake Griffin scored 24 to go with 14 rebounds for the Clippers, who also received 23 points and eight boards from Chris Kaman. Eric Gordon notched 19 points in defeat.
Two free throws from Anthony moved the Nuggets to a 96-93 edge with 2:14 remaining, and the Clippers couldn't capitalize despite numerous opportunities down the stretch. Griffin missed two foul shots, and a short time later Baron Davis was off the mark o a three-point try, on a night the Clippers ended 4-of-26 from beyond the arc.
The Nuggets chased down two offensive rebounds in the late going, but a steal by Ryan Gomes led to Davis' jam with 14.1 seconds left. Afflalo made two foul shots and Gordon's three-point try to tie the game missed in the waning seconds. Anthony sealed the win by sinking two from the charity stripe.
