The Los Angeles Angels have kept their hot streak going and won their fourth straight game on Friday night. The Halos kicked off a three-game series against the Detroit Tigers with a thrilling 3-2 walk-off victory.
The Angels score their first two runs in the bottom of the first inning on an RBI single from Torii Hunter and an RBI groundout from Howie Kendrick. After that, Detroit starter Max Scherzer shut the Angels down, allowing just five hits to the Angels in eight innings, striking out nine and walking none.
The Tigers cut the lead to 2-1 as Prince Fielder led off the second inning with a home run. Detroit then tied things up in the third inning when Alex Avila led off with another solo home run off of Ervin Santana.
The Angels threatened with two outs in the bottom of the ninth after Erick Aybar reached on an infield single, moving pinch-runner Peter Bourjos into scoring position. Alberto Callaspo drove a 1-2 pitch to left field and Bourjos raced home for the winning run without a throw.
The Angels could secure the series win on Saturday but they will have to contend with Justin Verlander.
