The Los Angeles Angels are looking to hang on in the AL West playoff race, hosting the Detroit Tigers at Angels Stadium Friday night.
Ervin Santana (8-11, 5.32) will get the start in lieu of Jered Weaver, who was skipped in the rotation due to tendinitis in his biceps. Santana earned himself a win in his last start on Saturday, tossing seven innings of two-run ball against the Mariners en route to his eighth victory of the year.
The Tigers will counter with Max Scherzer (15-6 3.93), who is looking for his sixth consecutive victory. He was lights out in his last start, allowing no runs over eight innings against the White Sox.
Prince Fielder is 4-for-7 with two home runs and five RBIs in his career against Santana, while Mike Trout's four strikeouts to Scherzer are the most against any pitcher this season.
First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. PT with coverage on Fox Sports West and KLAA 830 AM.
