The Los Angeles Angels were on the losing end once again on Tuesday night against the Oakland Athletics. They have now dropped the first two games of their big four-game set against their American League West and Wild Card rivals and will be able to do no better than a series split. The A's picked up the 6-5 win on Tuesday.
Yoenis Cespedes got the scoring started in the top of the second inning with a solo home run. The Angels answered back in the bottom of the inning with a two-run Vernon Wells homer -- his 11th of the year.
The 2-1 Halos lead did not last long as the A's put together a three-run top of the fourth. Brandon Moss hit a two-run homer and Stephen Drew hit a sacrifice fly to make it 4-2.
With two outs in the seventh inning, Torii Hunter hit a solo homer to cut the lead to one run. Although the Halos threatened in the bottom of the eighth, they were unable to get the tying run across. The A's delivered the knockout blow with two outs in the top of the ninth, as Coco Crisp hit a triple that Hunter misplayed into a two-run, inside-the-park home run that pushed the lead out to 6-3.
The Angels mounted a huge comeback in the ninth inning as Hunter and Albert Pujols hit RBI singles to cut the lead to 6-5 before Grant Balfour could record an out. Unfortunately, Jerry Blevins then struck out Kendrys Morales and got Howie Kendrick to ground into a game-ending double play.
