The Los Angeles Angels had some bullpen issues once again on Sunday as they lost the rubber game of their series to the Chicago White Sox by a final score of 4-2. While the series loss was costly, the blame cannot lie solely with the uneven bullpen. The Angels are capable of scoring runs in bunches, but thus far the lineup has been feast or famine, with few exceptions in-between.
Mike Trout opened the scoring in the fifth inning with a sacrifice fly that plated Maicer Izturis. Kevin Youkilis tied things up in the sixth inning with his third home run in the past two games. Torii Hunter drove in the go-ahead run with a a single in the top of the seventh to make it 2-1 Angels, but was thrown out trying to stretch it into a double to end the inning.
In the bottom of the seventh, Jason Isringhausen replaced Dan Haren, but gave up a single and then a home run to A.J. Pierzynski as the White Sox took a 3-2 lead. Alexei Ramirez added an RBI triple in the eighth inning for a big Chicago insurance run.
The Angels missed a big opportunity, as the Texas Rangers also lost on Sunday. Los Angeles will head into the week in third place in the American League West.
