The Los Angeles Angels are still trying to fight their way back into the Wild Card race. A sweep of the Boston Red Sox was a good start, but their three-game series against the Detroit Tigers at Comerica Park will have more direct playoff implications.
The Angels are currently 2.5 games behind the Tigers in the Wild Card standings. The Tigers are tied atop the Wild Card race with the Baltimore Orioles, Tampa Bay Rays and Oakland Athletics. The Halos could vault themselves into the thick of things with a sweep, but the Tigers will not be pushovers. Detroit themselves are coming off a three-game sweep of the Toronto Blue Jays and they have a much more formidable pitching staff than the Angels faced in Boston.
