Angels Activate Scott Downs From Disabled List

The Los Angeles Angels got a much needed boost to their bullpen on Saturday, as they activated relief pitcher Scott Downs from the 15-day disabled list before their game against the Tampa Bay Rays. To make room for Downs, the Halos optioned reliever Steven Geltz to Triple A Salt Lake after Friday's game.

In 38 games this season, Downs is 1-1 with a 2.57 ERA and nine saves, with 24 strikeouts and 12 walks in 35 innings. Walden saved 32 games for the Angels last season.

Walden was placed on the disabled list on July 31 with a left-shoudler strain, and the left-hander missed 17 games. Since the All-Star break, the Angels' bullpen has a 6.04 ERA and seven losses.

Downs could be joined in the bullpen as early as Sunday by Jordan Walden, who has been out since July 15 with a strained right biceps.
