The Los Angeles Angels were hoping to get back in the win column on Friday night behind their ace. Unfortunately, Jered Weaver had his worst start of the year as the Tampa Bay Rays once again ran wild at Angel Stadium. The Rays picked up a lopsided 12-3 win and are assured at least a series split.
B.J. Upton hit a home run in the top of the first to get the Rays on the board first. Ben Zobrist added a homer in the second to make it 2-0 Tampa Bay.
Erick Aybar hit his seventh home run of the year in the bottom of the third to make it 2-1, but the top of the fourth is where it all fell apart for Weaver and the Angels, as the Rays scored seven runs. Sean Rodriguez, Ryan Roberts and Jose Molina hit RBI singles and Desmond Jennings hit an RBI double. Upton added one last two-run RBI single after LaTroy Hawkins came on in relief of Weaver.
In the bottom of the third, Howie Kendrick hit his sixth homer of the year to make it 9-3, but the Halos offense once again sputtered out after that. The Rays managed to pick up three more runs over the rest of the game, but the damage had already been long done.
The Halos will try to regroup and pick up a win on Saturday.
