The Los Angeles Angels will have one representative in the Home Run Derby. MLB announced that sometimes infielder, sometimes outfielder Mark Trumbo will be among the contenders.
Trumbo is in his second season in the Major Leagues, batting .312 with 20 homers, 55 RBIs with a .620 slugging percentage (the latter stat 2nd in the AL). This is coming off a 2011 rookie season where he led his team in home runs and RBis, earning club MVP honors. Trumbo also displayed great power in the minors, hitting 120 home runs over a six year stretch from 2005 to 2010, including 36 in his final season.
The other contenders from the AL include AL derby captain Robinson Cano of the New York Yankees, outfielder Jose Bautista of the Toronto Blue Jays, and first baseman Prince Fielder of the Detroit Tigers. The derby will be held July 9th at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City at 5:00 p.m. PT on ESPN.
