The bullpen may have cost the Los Angeles Angels Game 1 of their series against the New York Yankees, but it was the starting pitching that came up short Saturday afternoon. The Angels lost by a score of 5-3 after Jerome Williams gave up five runs on seven hits over six innings.
The Halos offense struggled to make up for Williams' outing. Alberto Callaspo picked up two RBI on a single in the top of the first, but an RBI groundout from Bobby Wilson in the fourth was all the Angels had to show for the following eight innings. Hisanori Takahashi pitched a hitless eighth and Latroy Hawkins gave up only one hit and no runs in the ninth, but the damage had been done and the Angels were unable to rally.
The Angels drop to 48-40 with the loss. They'll look to avoid a three game sweep on Sunday when Game 3 kicks off at 1:05 p.m. ET.
