The Los Angeles Angels on Tuesday placed ace starting pitcher Jered Weaver on the disabled list with a lower back strain and spasms, one day after Weaver was forced to leave his Monday night start after just 12 pitches in the first inning.
"As I released the ball, I couldn't bend over. It felt like somebody came up from behind and stabbed me," Weaver said after Monday's game.
Weaver said he still felt stiff and sore after the game, and was to have an MRI exam on Tuesday morning. Obviously those results said enough to warrant a DL trip.
The Angels recalled Garrett Richards from Triple A Salt Lake, where he was 5-1 with a 4.31 ERA in 10 starts.
