Following the announcement that the Los Angeles Angels have parted ways with designated hitter and outfielder Bobby Abreu, it was announced that top prospect Mike Trout would be recalled from the minor leagues and would be with the team on Saturday.
Trout made his MLB debut with the Angels in July of last year and hit .220 with five home runs. He was hoping to make the Opening Day roster this year, but following Spring Training, he was seen as needing a bit more time to develop. The releasing of Abreu has likely forced the issue somewhat.
An unexpected development to be sure and Trout ends up being recalled on the same day that another young phenom received his call to the big leagues: the Washington Nationals will have Bryce Harper join them on Saturday, set to make his MLB debut over the weekend at Dodger Stadium.
