Gary DiSarcina, the Los Angeles Angels special assistant to general manager Jerry Dipoto, will manage the Boston Red Sox affiliate Triple-A Pawtucket next season, according to Los Angles Times reporter Mike DiGiovanna and CSNNE.com's Maureen Mullen.
DiSarcina is a native of Massachusetts and has a home in Cape Cod. He told DiGiovanna that the move home was important to him and his family, and he also wanted to get back into managing.
Working for the Red Sox organization from 2007-10, DiSarcina has a history of success in the Northeast. He was a manager for the Class-A Lowell Spinners in Massachusetts and had a 125-99 record with the team in three seasons.
An Angels shortstop from 1990-2000, DiSarcina was the team's minor-league coordinator until he was promoted to special assistant to Dipoto in October. He was in charge for infield coordination and with the promotion had a greater say in roster decisions.
DiSarcina told DiGiovanna that Dipoto did not block the Red Sox from speaking with him.
