The Los Angeles Angels are on the verge of trading pitcher Dan Haren to the Chicago Cubs for closer Carlos Marmol, according to several reports in the Dominican Republic and the United States. However, David Kaplan of CSN Chicago says the deal is not done yet and discussions are in progress.

Yancen Pujols of the Dominican newspaper El Caribe was told by the 30-year-old pitcher that he was being shipped to California.

"Anaheim is a good team," Marmol said. "I am very fond of the city of Chicago. It will always be in my heart; now I look up to the challenge in Anaheim."

Minutes after Pujols tweeted his report out of the Dominican, Gordon Wittenmyer of the Chicago Sun-Times and Mike DiGiovanna of the Los Angeles Times completed the puzzle with Haren on the other side of the deal.

Haren had a 12-13 record with a 4.33 ERA in 176⅔ innings for the Halos, with 142 strikeouts; while Marmol saved 20 games for the Cubs in 2012, with a 3.42 ERA in 55⅓ innings, fanning 72.

Haren was waiting to be traded before Friday's deadline, in which the Angels would issue a qualifying offer or not, being an impending free agent.
